Speech Title: Security Enhancements for 5G Wireless Networks

Abstract: Recently, the Fifth Generation (5G) wireless networks become a major carrier for wireless communications that supports the Internet of Everything and large-scale heterogeneous connections. Nowadays, the 5G wireless networks have been deployed in many countries in the world such as Qatar, where 5G commercial services are available to end-users. 5G wireless networks present a lot of promising and advanced features. Since the introduction of new techniques and new features makes 5G wireless networks face several new security challenges, it is critical to design strong security functionality to protect the operation of 5G wireless networks. The Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) has produced the Technical Specification TS 23.501 R16 to specify various functions of 5G wireless network with corresponding security mechanisms. Some other pioneering research works have enhanced the security mechanisms specified by the 3GPP. In this talk, I will simply introduce the architecture of 5G wireless networks specified by the 3GPP Technical Specification TS 23.501 R16. I would like to summarize some followed-up research work with the aim of achieving a compromise between the security functionality and the performance of the 5G wireless networks. A series of proposed solutions targeting to provide security protection with high efficiency over the 5G wireless networks in a few network scenarios will be introduced and discussed. Finally, further potential research directions on security 5G wireless networks will be disclosed to promote research activities in this exciting research field.

Speech Title: Data-Driven Privacy Sanitization with Regularization

Abstract: Raw data collected by a service provider to perform decision making for authorized tasks may allow it to infer other sensitive information it has not been authorized for. Cameras are widely used for in-vehicle monitoring. The raw video recorded by these cameras maybe abused by a service provider for other purposes. In this talk, I will describe a data sanitization framework that balances between utility and privacy. It incorporates regularization to ensure the sanitized data is compatible with a service provider's legacy learning systems, which were trained on the raw unsanitized data. I will describe a framework to perform video sanitization, where a driver’s personal actions, while still maintaining utility like detecting abnormal driver behaviors. This framework can also be applied to protecting the privacy of driving trajectories.

Brief Introduction: Dr Tay received the B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics, and the M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, Stanford, CA, USA, in 2002. He received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA, USA, in 2008. Speech Title: Addressing uncertainly issues in image understanding

Abstract: There are many questions to answer in image interpretation and understanding. Uncertainty in image analysis needs strong and powerful modelling tools to describe the objects in the images. Artificial intelligence (AI) plays a very important role in the design of a robust tool for image representation. Using some examples from his own work on uncertainty analysis, Prof. Zhou will explore how AI can stimulate new concepts or development of dealing with complicated problems and lead us to novel adventures through these applications. Keywords: Artificial intelligence, image understanding, medical application, object detection and tracking.
